Personal Experience:  I live in Jeddah so I had to fly to Riyadh and submit my application in person. It cannot be done by a third party because they need to take your fingerprint. Within 2 days of submitting my application, I received a call from the embassy in Riyadh for an interview. I had to fly again to Riyadh for the interview and my visa was approved the day after the interview! MY FIRST SCHENGEN VISA AFTER SEVERAL VISA REFUSALS!

Personal Experience: I was anticipating a rejection as I was rejected for Schengen & UK previously. The consulate called me personally and informed me that my visa was ready! I was ecstatic and over the moon! I believe the letter helps a lot in boosting my visa application for approval. I highly recommend writing a full-page letter stating your purpose of visit, your plan during your stay and ensure them that you will return back to the country you reside.
